In this guide, you'll learn what to expect throughout the year, the best months for different activities and practical tips to help you choose the right experiences. For the wider picture—including villages, viewpoints, transport and trip preparation—start with my complete Flores Island guide.
2Taking a Boat Trip Around Flores Island
When visiting Flores Island, this is one of the experiences you should not miss. Experiencing the island by boat, exploring the coast and sea caves surrounding Flores gives you a completely different perspective that you simply cannot get by car or on foot.
Flores is home to several caves along its coastline and, when ocean conditions allow, skippers can take the boat inside some of them. Among the caves you may see are Gruta dos Enxaréus, on the east coast near Caveira, and Gruta Fernão Jorge, another impressive coastal cave with basalt formations and natural light. Along the way, you can also admire waterfalls dropping directly toward the Atlantic and sections of coastline that are difficult to appreciate from land.
Who is this experience for?
This experience is a good choice for couples, families, photographers and many seniors. The main factor is the sea state rather than the physical difficulty. If the ocean is rough, the ride can become bumpy, so travellers who are prone to motion sickness or uncomfortable with a shaky boat trip should check the conditions with the operator before leaving.
Boat tour companies in Flores Island
Flores Boat ToursFlores Boat Tours operates from Santa Cruz das Flores and offers a dedicated caves-and-waterfalls trip as well as excursions to Corvo. Their coastal tour is a simple option if your main goal is to see the caves, cliffs and waterfalls from the sea without committing most of the day.📍Departure: Porto das Poças · Santa Cruz das Flores⏱️Typical duration: Around 1.5 hours for the caves & waterfalls tour💰Price: Around €35 (about $41) per person for the caves & waterfalls tour · confirm when booking🎟️Booking: Recommended in advance, especially in summer🧴What to bring: Sunscreen, water, towel and light snacks · life jacket provided👤Senior-friendly: Generally suitable when the sea is calm; confirm directly if you have reduced mobility🌐Website: Flores Boat Tours
Flores FishingFlores Fishing offers several coastal options, including a caves-and-waterfalls tour and a longer trip around Flores Island. This makes it useful if you want either a shorter introduction to the coastline or a more complete journey around the island.📍Departure area: Santa Cruz das Flores · confirm the exact boarding point when booking⏱️Typical duration: 2 hours for caves & waterfalls · 3–4 hours for the Around Flores Island tour💰Price: €35 (about $41) per person for caves & waterfalls · €90 (about $105) per person for Around Flores Island🎟️Booking: Advance reservation required; a deposit is requested by the operator🧴What to bring: Sunscreen, water and a light layer; take a towel if your chosen trip includes snorkeling👤Practical note: Children under 2 are not accepted on the caves & waterfalls tour; sea conditions can cause rescheduling🌐Website: Flores Fishing
Best time to take a boat trip
I recommend planning this experience between May and September, when sea conditions are usually more favourable than during winter. If you have a choice, morning or later in the afternoon can also be more comfortable because spending a couple of hours on an exposed boat under the strong summer sun can become tiring. Whatever the month, the final decision always depends on the ocean conditions that day.
Can you combine it with a trip to Corvo?
Yes. If you are already planning to visit Corvo, ask the operator how much of the Flores coastline is included on the crossing. Some trips leaving Santa Cruz can also show you part of the northeast coast, caves and waterfalls when the sea conditions allow, giving you a chance to combine two experiences in the same day.
💡Local TipI recommend booking your trip in advance because availability can become limited during the summer months. It is better to plan ahead and then stay flexible if the operator needs to adjust the trip because of the sea conditions.
My verdict
This is one of the experiences I would prioritise on Flores because the island looks completely different from the sea. My personal recommendation is Flores Boat Tours, a company I work directly with, so I want to be transparent about that. Hugo Costa, the skipper, is from Flores and knows the island's coastline extremely well. If your schedule allows it, book early and choose a day when the ocean conditions are comfortable.
3Visiting Corvo Island from Flores Island
📍 Caldeirão · Corvo Island
Corvo is only around 17.9 km (11.1 miles) from Flores, making it one of the easiest island combinations to add to a stay in the Western Group. By fast boat, the crossing from Santa Cruz das Flores usually takes around 45 minutes each way, although the exact time always depends on the sea conditions.
The experience is absolutely worth it. Corvo is so close to Flores that, if the weather and sea allow, I strongly recommend dedicating one day to visiting it by boat. During the crossing you may also see dolphins and, if you are lucky, whales.
What to do when you arrive in Corvo
When you arrive, one of the main things to do is visit the famous Caldeirão. You can book a local van or taxi transfer from the harbour to the top of the island, usually in less than 30 minutes. I also recommend leaving time to walk around Vila do Corvo and have lunch at BBC, where you can try their francesinha, a typical dish from the north of Portugal. You can find more of my Corvo recommendations in my Flores & Corvo Interactive Guide.
Who is this experience for?
Like the boat trip around Flores, this is a good experience for couples, families, photographers and many seniors. The main consideration is the sea state. If the ocean is rough, the crossing can become bumpy, so travellers who are prone to motion sickness or uncomfortable on fast boats should check the conditions with the skipper before departure.
Boat companies for a Corvo day trip
Flores Boat ToursFlores Boat Tours operates from Porto das Poças in Santa Cruz das Flores and offers dedicated boat trips to Corvo. This is my first recommendation for the crossing because I work directly with them and know the skipper, Hugo Costa.📍Departure: Porto das Poças · Santa Cruz das Flores⏱️Crossing: Around 45 minutes each way, depending on sea conditions💰Price: €39 (about $45) per person🎟️Booking: Recommended in advance, especially in summer🧴What to bring: Sunscreen, water, a light layer and comfortable walking shoes👤Senior-friendly: Generally suitable when the sea is calm; check directly if you have reduced mobility🌐Website: Flores Boat Tours
Flores FishingFlores Fishing also operates a Corvo Island Tour from Santa Cruz das Flores, providing another straightforward option for travellers who want to spend the day on Corvo.📍Departure area: Santa Cruz das Flores⏱️Crossing: Around 45 minutes each way, depending on sea conditions💰Price: €50 (about $58) per person🎟️Booking: Reservation requires a 50% deposit according to the operator🧴What to bring: Sunscreen, water, a light layer and comfortable walking shoes👤Practical note: Trips can be cancelled or rescheduled because of weather and sea conditions🌐Website: Flores Fishing
Best time to visit Corvo from Flores
I recommend planning the trip between May and September, when sea conditions are usually more favourable than in winter. Even in summer, the trip is always weather-dependent, so keep some flexibility in your itinerary in case the operator needs to change the day.
💡Local TipBefore arriving in Corvo, double-check with your skipper whether it is a good day to visit Caldeirão. The weather at the top can be completely different from the harbour, and the skipper will usually have a good idea of the visibility and conditions that day.
My verdict
Visiting Corvo, the smallest island in the Azores, is absolutely worth it if you are already staying on Flores. My first recommendation is Flores Boat Tours, with Flores Fishing as another option. Book ahead in summer, but keep the day flexible because the final decision always depends on the sea conditions.
📍 Caldeirão · Corvo Island
One of the great things about staying on Flores is how easy it is to include a day trip to Corvo, the smallest island in the Azores. Corvo lies only about 18 km (11 mi) from Flores at the closest point, and the crossing from Santa Cruz das Flores to Vila do Corvo usually takes around 45–60 minutes on small tour boats, depending on the sea conditions and the route taken. Because the islands are so close, I really recommend dedicating one full day to Corvo if your itinerary allows it. During the crossing you may also spot dolphins and, if you are lucky, whales — although wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
Once you arrive on Corvo, the first place I recommend visiting is the famous Caldeirão, the huge volcanic crater at the top of the island. Vans and taxis operate from the harbour and the drive normally takes less than 30 minutes. After the Caldeirão, spend some time walking around Vila do Corvo, the island's only village, and stop for lunch. One of my recommendations is BBC, where you can try their francesinha, a typical dish from northern Portugal. You can find more of my Corvo recommendations in my Flores & Corvo Interactive Guide.
This trip works well for couples, families and seniors when the sea is calm. The main thing to consider is the boat crossing: if the Atlantic is rough, the ride can be bumpy and may not suit travellers who are uncomfortable on small boats or prone to motion sickness.
Best time: I recommend doing this trip between May and September, when sea conditions are generally better than in winter. The exact departure time will depend on the operator, weather and sea conditions, so keep this day flexible.

💡
Local Tip
Before heading up to the Caldeirão, ask your skipper whether the weather at the top looks good enough to make the trip worthwhile. The crater can be completely covered by cloud even when the weather by the harbour looks fine.
My verdict: Visiting Corvo is 100% worth it. It is the smallest island in the Azores and feels completely different from Flores despite being so close. If you only have one day for Corvo, I would prioritise the Caldeirão, Vila do Corvo and enough free time to enjoy the island without rushing. For the boat trip, my first recommendation is Flores Boat Tours with Hugo Costa; Flores Fishing is also a good alternative.
-
✓
Visit the Caldeirão, Corvo's enormous volcanic crater and the island's most iconic landscape.

✓
Walk through Vila do Corvo and experience the quiet atmosphere of the smallest island in the Azores.

4Canyoning in Flores Island
📍 WestCanyon Turismo Aventura · Flores Island
Imagine descending a waterfall such as Poço do Bacalhau, where the main waterfall is around 90 m (295 ft) high, secured with a harness, helmet and technical ropes while being guided by professionals. You do not need to start at this level: canyoning on Flores can be adapted to different levels of previous experience, which is one of the reasons the island is such a strong place to try this activity.
Why try canyoning in Flores?
Flores is shaped by water. Between Fajãzinha and Fajã Grande alone there are almost twenty waterfalls dropping from the high western cliffs. Canyoning gives you a completely different way to experience these landscapes, combining adrenaline with places and perspectives that most visitors will never reach on foot.
What is the experience like?
Canyoning involves moving through streams and steep watercourses using techniques such as walking in the river, rappelling, down-climbing, slides and, depending on the route, jumps. WestCanyon offers different levels, from beginner experiences to more advanced routes. Their introductory option includes up to seven rappels, with a maximum rappel of 18 m (59 ft), and takes around 3 hours 30 minutes. More advanced experiences can last from around 4 hours 30 minutes to 7 hours, with larger and more technical rappels.
Before starting, the guides provide practical training in a controlled environment so you can become familiar with the equipment, progression techniques and safety rules.
Who is this experience for?
There are different canyoning levels, so beginners do not need previous experience for the easiest routes. However, this is still a physical activity in wet and uneven terrain. Travellers with reduced mobility, relevant health problems or concerns about the physical requirements should speak with the operator before booking.

Best time for canyoning
May to October is the period I recommend most for canyoning in Flores.
💡Local TipIf you have any doubts before the activity, speak with Marco Melo, the owner of WestCanyon. With more than 19 years of experience in this field, he is the person I would ask about the right canyon and difficulty level for you.
My verdict
If you want to add some fun and adrenaline to your Flores trip, I strongly recommend booking canyoning with WestCanyon. There are options for different levels, making Flores one of the best opportunities in the Azores to try this kind of activity.
-
✓
Beginner-friendly canyoning routes are available with an introductory safety briefing.
-
✓
Experience waterfalls, streams and rappels from a perspective most visitors never see.
-
✓
More advanced routes are available for travellers with previous canyoning experience.
5Exploring Flores Island by Quad Bike
Quad biking is a relatively new and fun way to explore Flores. You travel with a guide and a small group through different parts of the island, combining viewpoints, lagoons and trails while experiencing Flores from a completely different perspective than you would from inside a car.
Why try a quad bike tour?
This experience gives you the opportunity to feel more connected to the landscape while still covering a good part of the island. You are outside, breathing the fresh air and driving through a mix of roads and island trails. If you have never driven a quad bike before, it is also simply a fun activity to add to the trip.
What will you see?
The guided tour focuses on the scenery that makes Flores special, including viewpoints, the island's lagoons and more remote routes. Some of the places highlighted for this experience include Fajã de Lopo Vaz, the Flores lagoons, Morro Alto and Fajã Grande.
Who is this experience for?
You need a driving licence accepted in Portugal to drive the quad bike. I would not recommend this activity to travellers with low mobility or anyone who is not comfortable controlling a quad bike for several hours.
Quad bike company in Flores Island
Várzea Villas & ToursA guided quad bike experience based in Lajes das Flores, designed to explore viewpoints, lagoons and island trails with a local guide.📍Meeting area: Lajes das Flores · confirm the exact meeting point when booking⏱️Typical duration: 4 hours🪪Licence: A driving licence accepted in Portugal is required to drive💰Price: €130 (about $151) per person🎟️Booking: Recommended in advance🕑Current schedule shown: Monday to Friday · 14:00–18:00 for quad bike tours📞Contact: +351 918 148 890🌐Website: Várzea Villas & Tours
Best time for a quad bike tour
The most pleasant period is generally between April and October, when the weather is usually better for spending several hours outside.
What to do afterwards
Since the tour finishes in Lajes das Flores, I recommend having dinner at Restaurant Casa do Rei. You can find it, together with my other local recommendations, in the Flores & Corvo Interactive Guide.
My verdict
This activity is completely worth it if you want to add something fun and different to your Flores trip. It works especially well for groups of friends or family travelling together and looking for an experience they can share.

6Diving and Snorkeling in Flores Island
Flores, like the rest of the Azores, is a great place for diving and snorkeling. The waters around the island have a good variety of marine life, including species such as yellowmouth barracudas, Almaco jacks and white trevallies. Around Fajã Grande you can also find underwater cultural heritage such as the wreck of the Papadiamantis.
Why snorkel or dive in Flores?
The underwater scenery here is very different from diving around tropical coral reefs, but that is part of what makes it special. Flores has volcanic rock formations, reefs, caves, clear Atlantic water and marine life that fits the character of the Azores perfectly. It is a beautiful way to experience another side of the island.
What can you do at the moment?
At the moment, I would not plan your trip around having a local scuba-diving operator available on Flores. Snorkeling is much easier to organise independently: bring your own equipment or buy basic snorkeling gear after arriving and use the island's swimming areas and natural pools.
Some of the easiest places to combine swimming and snorkeling are the natural swimming areas in Fajã Grande, Lajes das Flores and Santa Cruz das Flores. Always choose the location according to the sea conditions that day.
Who is this experience for?
Snorkeling is a good activity for anyone who is comfortable swimming. Children should always be accompanied and closely supervised in the water, particularly in areas without lifeguards.
Best time for snorkeling
I recommend June to September, when ocean temperatures are generally at their most comfortable and can reach around 22°C–24°C (72°F–75°F). For more detail on seasonal ocean temperatures, see my Best Time to Visit the Azores guide.
💡Local TipIf the swimming area is not supervised, which is common on Flores, check the water carefully and ask locals whether jellyfish have been seen before you go snorkeling. This is something locals often check before swimming around the island.
My verdict
If you enjoy snorkeling, I recommend adding it to your trip. It is one of the easiest ways to relax on a good summer afternoon with family or friends while still experiencing another side of Flores.

7Hiking the Most Beautiful Trails in Flores Island

📍 Hiking Trail Poço da Alagoinha · Flores Island
Flores Island has four official shorter walking routes, each with different landscapes, distances and levels of difficulty. Three explore the coast, while PR03FLO begins among the lakes of the Central Plateau and descends towards Fajã Grande. If you also want viewpoints and scenic stops that do not require a full hike, see my 15 best places to visit in Flores.
If you travel to one of the most westerly islands in Europe, bring proper walking shoes and make time to explore it on foot. The trails are one of the best ways to connect with the island's immense nature, combining exercise, quiet and scenery that you cannot experience in the same way from a car.
What is the hiking experience like?
Flores gives you a choice between coastal paths, volcanic lakes, waterfalls, old settlements and high cliffs above the Atlantic. Most of the principal routes are linear, so the landscapes keep changing—but you must arrange how you will reach the start and return afterwards.
Official trails in Flores Island
| Trail | Route and highlights | Distance | Time | Difficulty | Details |
| PRC04FLO — Fajã de Lopo Vaz | Return route from the picnic area to the isolated fajã; coastal cliffs, a warm microclimate and an old stone staircase. | 3.4 km | 2 hours | Medium | Official trail page |
| PR02FLO — Lajedo to Fajã Grande | Linear southwest-coast route through Mosteiro, Rocha dos Bordões, Fajãzinha and Fajã Grande. | 13.2 km | 3h 30m | Medium | Official trail page |
| PR03FLO — Miradouro das Lagoas to Poço do Bacalhau | Linear descent from the Central Plateau lakes to Fajã Grande, ending near the 100-metre Poço do Bacalhau waterfall. | 7 km | 3 hours | Hard | Official trail page |
| PR01FLO — Ponta Delgada to Fajã Grande | Linear northwestern route via Albernaz Lighthouse, views towards Corvo and dramatic coastal cliffs. | 12 km | 4h 30m | Hard | Currently listed as closed. Check status |
These routes can include steep climbs, mud, slippery rocks and exposed areas. They are not a good choice for travellers with serious mobility or health limitations. Choose according to your fitness and always check the official trail status and weather before leaving.
Best time for hiking
You can hike throughout the year when routes are open, but I recommend April to October for generally more comfortable conditions. Winter can offer a completely different landscape and biodiversity, but rain, wind and fog can make walking much harder.
Trail transfers
Pick Me Up in FloresA local taxi and shuttle service for one to eight passengers. It offers scheduled transport to trail starts and collection points, which is particularly useful because many Flores routes are linear.📍Service: Point-to-point transfers anywhere on Flores Island🥾Useful for: Lagoas/PR03FLO, Lajedo/PR02FLO, Ponta Delgada and other trail access points👥Capacity: 1–8 passengers💰Price: On request🎟️Booking: Pre-book your pickup and return time🌐Website: Pick Me Up in Flores
💡Local TipWhen planning a linear trail, arrange transport to Ponta Delgada, the Central Plateau lakes or Lajedo before you start, so you can finish in Fajã Grande and rest after the walk. A pre-booked transfer or taxi is normally the simplest option; limited bus services may also work on some days.
My verdict
I recommend completing at least one or two trails during your stay. Do not rush them—give yourself time to enjoy the silence and some of the best nature Flores has to offer.
8Swimming in Flores' Natural Pools

📍 Natural Pool Fajã Grande · Flores Island
If you enjoy swimming, bring your swimsuit and make time for the natural pools of Flores. These pools sit among the dark volcanic rocks that surround the island, creating a completely different experience from a normal beach.
They are perfect for a relaxed summer afternoon and a refreshing break from the warmth and humidity. Bring snorkeling equipment if you have it: in calm conditions you can often see small fish and basalt formations beneath the water.
Who is this experience for?
The natural pools are suitable for most travellers, including families. Children must always be supervised, and everyone should check the sea before entering because most swimming areas on Flores are not permanently monitored.
Natural pools in Flores Island
Natural Pool of Fajã GrandeA volcanic swimming area on the west coast, beside Barraca Q'Abana. It is a good option for relaxed swimming and snorkeling when the Atlantic is calm. If you plan to eat nearby, check my guide to the best restaurants in Flores Island.📍Location: Fajã Grande, next to Barraca Q'Abana🏊Best for: Swimming, snorkeling and a relaxed west-coast afternoon🛟Safety: Choose the supervised bathing area when the seasonal lifeguard service is operating
Natural Pools of Santa CruzAn easy swimming stop on the east coast, next to Café Buena Vista. Because Flores weather can differ sharply from west to east, Santa Cruz is a useful alternative when conditions in Fajã Grande are poor.📍Location: Santa Cruz das Flores, next to Café Buena Vista🏊Best for: Swimming while exploring Santa Cruz and the east coast🌦️Good to know: Check both coasts before deciding where to swim
Best time for swimming
June to September is normally the most comfortable period, but the condition of the sea matters more than the date. Always watch the waves and water movement before entering.
💡Local TipBe careful with tides and swell. For greater safety, I recommend using the supervised swimming area in Fajã Grande when the lifeguard service is operating, especially when travelling with children.
9Photography and Scenic Experiences in Flores Island

📍 Ponta Delgada · Flores Island
Flores has countless places for photography, including viewpoints and landscapes that rarely appear in standard travel guides. I include several of my favourite locations in the Flores & Corvo Interactive Guide.
Beyond famous places such as Poço da Alagoinha and Poço do Bacalhau, exploring by car, scooter or on foot creates constant opportunities for landscape photography. You can find both landmarks and five more cascades in my guide to the best waterfalls in Flores Island. Even the view towards Corvo changes completely depending on the light, cloud and sea conditions.
What makes Flores special for photography?
Within a short distance you can move between crater lakes, waterfalls, volcanic cliffs, green pastures, small villages and the Atlantic coast. You do not need professional equipment—the changing weather is often what turns an ordinary viewpoint into a memorable photograph.
Best time for photography
Photography works throughout the year because every season gives you a different version of Flores. I personally love winter, when rough weather and larger Atlantic waves can create dramatic ocean photographs. July and August are usually best if hydrangeas are your priority.
💡Local TipIf you visit in July or August, take advantage of the hydrangeas filling roadsides and landscapes across the island. Keep your plans flexible: fog can hide one viewpoint while another part of Flores is completely clear.
10Organized Tours in Flores Island

📍 Guided Island Tour · Flores Island
If you want to relax and let a local guide take care of the route, Flores offers organized van tours for small groups and private travellers. It is one of the easiest ways to see the island without renting a car. If you prefer to explore independently, compare that option with my guide to renting a car in Flores Island.
Local guides normally combine the principal lakes, waterfalls, viewpoints and villages while explaining the history and context behind them. That local knowledge makes the experience more valuable than simply driving from stop to stop alone.
Who is this experience for?
Tours are suitable for almost everyone. I especially recommend them for families, seniors, travellers who prefer not to drive and anyone who wants a comfortable day with a local guide managing the route and adapting it to the weather.
Organized tour company in Flores
Experience OCExperience OC is based in Santa Cruz das Flores and provides guided land, cultural, gastronomic, hiking, sea and Corvo experiences. Its current programme includes full-island and half-day routes, making it possible to choose according to your available time and physical level.📍Based in: Santa Cruz das Flores🚐Experiences: Full-island, half-day, cultural, gastronomic, nature and walking tours⏱️Typical duration: Approximately 2–7 hours, depending on the tour💰Price: Check the selected experience when booking👤Senior-friendly: A strong option; confirm the walking level of the selected tour🌐Website: Experience OC tours
Best time for an organized tour
Tours can operate throughout the year depending on availability, although May to October normally provides more options. A good guide can change the order of the stops when fog or rain affects one side of the island.
💡Local TipTell the guide before departure if there is one place you particularly want to see. Weather varies greatly across Flores, and a local guide may be able to change the route to give you a better chance of seeing it clearly.
11Birdwatching and Wildlife Experiences

📍 Coastal birdwatching · Flores Island
Birdwatching—the observation and photography of birds—is still an underrated activity on Flores. The island's remote North Atlantic position, lakes, fields and coastal cliffs create opportunities to see resident seabirds as well as seasonal migrants.
Flores and nearby Corvo are particularly interesting during migration, when unusual birds can reach the Western Group. Along the coast, Cory's shearwaters, common terns and roseate terns are among the characteristic species associated with the island.
Cory's shearwaters—the Azorean “cagarros”
The cagarro is one of the most recognisable birds of the Azores. These seabirds return to the islands for the breeding season, and their distinctive calls can often be heard near coastal areas after dark. Observe quietly, keep your distance and never use flash close to nesting birds.
Where and when to look
Coastal cliffs, the Central Plateau lakes and quieter rural areas are good places to watch without needing a dedicated full-day excursion. Birdlife changes throughout the year. Summer is useful for nesting seabirds, while autumn can be especially interesting for migration. I personally enjoy autumn and winter because the island is quieter and the silence makes observation more rewarding.
Practical information
- ✓Bring binoculars and, for photography, a lens with useful reach.
- ✓Wear waterproof footwear around wet trails, lakes and coastal ground.
- ✓Keep a respectful distance from birds, colonies and nesting areas.
- ✓Combine birdwatching with hiking, photography or a visit to the Central Plateau.
💡Local TipDo not focus only on the main viewpoints. Stop in quieter rural areas, near the lakes or along less busy parts of the coast and spend a little time listening and watching. Some of the best encounters happen when you slow down.
My verdict
If you are interested in birds or wildlife photography, Flores deserves time in your itinerary. The activity fits naturally around sightseeing, and the diversity of habitats may surprise you.
Quick Comparison of Experiences 2–11
Use this table as a quick starting point when deciding which Flores experiences best fit your trip. Weather, trail status, availability and sea conditions can change, so keep some flexibility in your plans.
| Experience | Best period | Best for | Plan ahead |
| Boat trip around Flores | May–September | Coastal scenery, caves and waterfalls | Book ahead and keep the day flexible for sea conditions |
| Day trip to Corvo | May–September | First-time visitors, scenery and island culture | Reserve the boat early and confirm weather at Caldeirão |
| Canyoning | May–October | Adventure travellers and active visitors | Choose the correct level and book with a qualified operator |
| Quad bike tour | April–October | Groups, families and confident drivers | A valid driving licence is required; reserve in advance |
| Diving and snorkeling | June–September | Swimming, marine life and underwater scenery | Check sea conditions; bring snorkeling equipment |
| Hiking | April–October | Nature, scenery and active travellers | Check trail status and arrange transport for linear routes |
| Natural pools | June–September | Swimming, families and snorkeling | Check swell, tides and lifeguard availability |
| Photography | Year-round | Landscapes, weather and hydrangeas | Keep the day flexible for light, cloud and fog |
| Organized tours | Year-round; more choice May–October | Families, seniors and travellers without a car | Book ahead in high season |
| Birdwatching | Year-round; species vary by season | Nature lovers and photographers | Bring binoculars and respect nesting areas |
💡Local TipCheck activity availability before travelling to Flores because some experiences are seasonal. Book ahead whenever possible, especially during the busy summer months, but keep weather-dependent days flexible because sea conditions, rain and fog can change plans quickly.
